Dr. Yuchuan Ding, MD, Ph.D., a Professor of Neurosurgery, currently serves as the Director of Cerebrovascular Disease Laboratories and the Associate Chair for Research in Department of Neurosurgery, at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He also holds the positions of Visiting Professor at the Capital Medical University in Beijing, China, and at Weifang Medical College in Shandong, China.
This exceptional doctor received his Medical Degree at Beijing University Health Science Center and his M.S. in Surgery at Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, China. After finishing his residency in China, Dr. Ding became an attending surgeon. He continued on to his Ph.D. in Neuroscience at The Australian National University in Australia. Dr. Ding then had his postdoctoral training at Vanderbilt University Medical School in the USA and proceeded to join the faculty at Wayne State University. Dr. Ding is currently a member of the American Heart Association Stroke Council, the Society for Neuroscience (USA), Plastic Surgery Research Council (USA), National Neurotrauma Society (USA), and International Society for Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism.
His expertise as a researcher in biochemical sciences and neurosciences has led Dr. Ding to profound advances and conclusions with translational studies in stroke and traumatic brain injury. His research includes preconditioning on neuroprotection in stroke, intra-arterial infusion and local brain hypothermia, the beneficial effect of physical exercise on rehabilitation after stroke, ethanol and oxygen-induced neuroprotection. Very recently, Dr. Ding’s research is also focused on environmental diseases. Dr. Ding has published over 160 peer-reviewed articles and numerous abstracts, as well as many book chapters. Dr. Ding also serves as Editorial Boarder Member, Guest Editor, Associate Editor, and Editor-in-Chief for more than 20 peer-reviewed journals.
Yuchuan Ding’s is interested in the fields of Ischemia/reperfusion injury, endovascular therapy, stroke, neuroprotection, exercise, preconditioning, rehabilitation, brain metabolism, hibernation-like therapy, hypothermia, cell death, blood-brain barrier.
