Dr. Kean is currently a lecturer at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Dr. Kean was employed as an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at the University of Louisiana at Monroe for 3 years prior to coming to Iowa. In Louisiana, Dr. Kean taught undergraduate and graduate exercise physiology and biomechanics. Prior to teaching in Louisiana he taught anatomy and physiology at Stark State Community College in North Canton, Ohio. Prior to starting a teaching career, he worked as an exercise physiologist at an outpatient rehabilitation clinic in Toledo, Ohio for 10 years. His duties there included execution of exercise prescriptions on land and in the pool as well as various community outreach programs. From there he obtained his athletic trainers license and starting working for a hospital in Medina, Ohio. He worked as an outreach athletic trainer at local high schools. He also performed various community activities and was the strength and conditioning coach at those high schools as well.

Dr. Kean completed his Ph.D. in 2012 at Kent State University in exercise physiology. Dr. Kean obtained his certification as strength and conditioning specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 1995. He also obtained his certification and licensure has an athletic trainer in 1999 and is currently licensed in Ohio and Iowa.
