Dr. Sumit Bhattacharya is a R&D strategist at the University of Utah, Health Care. He leads a research initiative known as the Neuroscience Initiative which aims at setting up a state of art Neuroscience Research Center at the University of Utah in the coming years. Dr. Bhattacharya received his Undergraduate and Masters in Biotechnology from Bangalore University, India and went on to complete his Ph.D. from University of Toledo with a specialization in Neurosciences and Neurological disorders. He did his postdoctoral fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology from Schepens Eye Research Center, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School with a special emphasis on Dry eye and related disorders. Dr. Bhattacharya was funded by the Fight for Sight foundation to work on his postdoctoral project. After his postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Bhattacharya then took up a research scientist position in his previous lab in Ohio, where he worked on biomarker development and also on pre-clinical drug trial for Sjorgren`s syndrome which causes Dry Eye. Dr. Bhattacharya has a strong record of publication in dry mouth and dry eye and has been an invited speaker to national and international conferences including the Gordon Research Conference on several occassions. He was also invited as one of the emerging vision scientists to advocate for increased NIH funding at Capital Hill, D.C. by the National Alliance for Eye and Vision Research.
