Ana Neumann, DDS, MPH, Ph.D., earned her dental degree in Brazil and her MPH and Ph.D. from The University of Texas School of Public Health at Houston. Her doctoral work was completed at UT M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, investigating genetic susceptibility to head and neck cancers. She previously worked in several countries -- including Brazil, Kuwait, India, and Australia -- as a clinical dentist, researcher, and academician. Currently, Dr. Neumann is an Associate Professor of the Department of General Practice and Dental Public Health and Director of Dental Public Health at UTHealth School of Dentistry at Houston, where she directs three undergraduate courses and participates in clinical teaching and research. The didactic courses she currently leads have a focus on Oral Health Promotion, Dental Public Health, and Oral Oncology. She serves as Co-Investigator on an NIDCR-funded project to test, evaluate and validate dental quality measures. Dr. Neumann also collaborates with the School of Public Health on the NIDCR-funded project CATCH: Healthy Smiles with the objective to develop oral health intervention materials to be integrated into the CATCH program for children aged 5-7 years. As Director of Dental Public Health, she leads the dual degree program in dentistry and a master of public health (DDS/MPH) offered to undergraduate dental students.
She has won multiple teaching awards, including the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award for Innovation in Teaching, and is a member of the Dean’s Academy of Teaching Scholars and a graduate of the American Dental Education Association’s Leadership Institute.
Dr. Neumann advises and mentors dental students including fellows from the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship where she is an Advisory Board member. She serves on various committees at the School of Dentistry's and is a member of the American Dental Education Association, Texas Oral Health Coalition, and Texas Public Health Association.
Ana Neumann’s is interested in the fields of dental and molecular epidemiology, biostatistics, dental quality measures, and oral health promotion.
